Creating a Great Food Gift Basket
Everyone loves to eat! If you need a great gift for a friend, co-worker or other special person in your life, why not try a food gift basket? Food is something that everyone can enjoy, so you can't go wrong with one of these types of baskets. The recipient will not only love the food contained inside the basket, they'll be able to use the basket after the contents have been removed. You can purchase a ready-made basket, but it's often more fun to make your own!
There are many different foodstuffs you can buy to fill your basket. Always go for non-perishables and preserved items. You can include a variety of different foods, or go for a certain theme. For coffee lovers, try packages of different gourmet coffees and include two attractive mugs in a color that matches the filler in the basket. Tea is another popular theme. Along with the mugs, fill a tea-themed basket with packets of black, green and herbal teas in lots of yummy flavors. A great addition to a coffee or tea basket would be an electric mug warmer.
Got a chocolate lover in your life? Then fill their basket with different types of chocolate bars in milk, dark and white chocolate. Add a miniature box or two of decorative designer chocolates. You can even include a tin of gourmet hot chocolate mix. For a wine lover, include a bottle or two of fine wine, an assortment of gourmet cheeses, and some crackers. For a variety basket, traditional favorites include miniature jams and jellies in lots of great flavors, selections of cheeses and cured meats, crackers, and a few tea bags or single serving packs of coffee.
Make sure the basket you choose is an appropriate size for the number of items you have. It's better to overfill your basket than have it looking empty. The basket you choose should be deep enough to accommodate a good bit of filler material. Shredded colored paper makes an ideal filler. You can either buy bags of it at the craft store, or make it yourself using colored paper and a paper shredder. Try mixing two or three different colors of paper for an interesting look. After adding the filler and gift items, wrap the basket in colored or clear cellophane. Add a bow in a coordinating color, and you're done!
